Winter in Ordona - Part 1 by ~cstarry7:iconcstarry7:

Ordon  in the winter time was certainly a sight to see. Snow flakes falling at a rapid rate, coating the ground below. The birds were quiet in the mornings, sleeping in late it seemed, too cold to leave their nests. Other animals were silent too, even the goats who used to bleat constantly were quiet - huddled together for warmth. However, the frosty air would soon be broken by a rather loud shriek. “Link!” A voice was saying. “Stop!”  Though the sound was not one of alarm, but rather one of laughter. “Seriously!” A female’s voice continued, the woman who owned the voice now pushing the short blonde haired man away. “Link.” She said again more firmly, but was already tackled into the snow - the triumphant blonde leaning over her.

“Give it back.” He chuckled, holding out his hand for whatever it was that she had.

“No!” the Twili beneath him cried, “It looks better on me anyway..” She said, clutching the green hat, frowning deeply. “Come on..” She mumbled - squirming out from beneath him. “What can it hurt to let me borrow it today?” She said. “If I still had the fused shadow, I’d gladly let you wear it..” She huffed, pulling the green hat onto her head once more, before giggling again. The Hylian sighed,  watching her closely, before running a hand through his honey-blonde hair.

“Fine.” He mumbled. “But I wouldn’t want the fused shadow even if you did have it. I don’t know how you managed wearing a giant stone on your  head. I was surprised you never toppled over…” Link chuckled, laughing a bit more as Midna rolled her eyes. “Why are you so mean to me?” He asked, crawling toward her, and moving faster than anyone might expect him to - he’d pinned her wrists to the trunk of the tree that held his house. “I only saved your life countless times..” He murmured. “Doesn’t a hero ever get his reward?” He asked, and Midna snorted, shaking her head.

“Well Link, if I recall correctly, I remember you saying you ‘weren’t a hero’ and that you ‘didn’t need a reward,’ when Zelda offered a while ago. “So why should I be required to treat you like a hero? I’m after all, of the same status as Zelda…” She said, smirking at him. Link smirked right back.

“Well, you  were..” He pointed out. “Until you met me and I stole you away from your kingdom..” He teased. Midna scoffed.

“You hardly ‘stole me away’ I came back on my own…”

“For me.”

“Pfft, not quite - I was more interested in having tea with Zelda.” She lied, before sighing. Link simply settled for rolling his eyes, and suddenly moved his head to kiss her neck. Midna twitched where she sat, eyes widening. “Listen, I definitely didn’t come back for you…” She continued, and Link chuckled - knowing she was lying now just to try and annoy him. “Honestly-” She continued, and he simply kissed her neck again.

“Just admit it and I’ll let you go. You came back for me.” He said, glancing up at her with those sapphire eyes of his.

“No - I definitely wanted to have tea with Zelda, maybe get some beer with Telma..” She continued, laughing slightly - though fell silent as he placed another kiss on her neck. She shuddered, head leaning back ever so slightly - exposing more of herself to him. He smirked, watching her body react as he placed another kiss on her throat. The little ways she moved when he did this were…interesting…to watch.

“Admit it.” He pressed, watching her struggle slightly, before glancing at him with an icy glaze to her crimson eyes.

“No.” She said more firmly this time, determined to win this little challenge of his.

“You’re quite sure…?” Link said, giving her a chance to answer, before he upped the stakes a little bit. Leaning into her, he kissed her lips,  moving her wrists into his dominant hand, before his right hand moved, slipping under the heavy black clothing Uli had made Midna for the winter. “You’re sure..?” He tested again, fingers stroking against her soft skin. She gasped, lurching where she sat, watching him closely - biting her lip.

“What if I say…I’ll admit it…?” She asked, still defensive - not quite saying it yet. “Will you…move a little faster with this…? We could go inside…” She said - and Link instantly shook his head.

“You know my limits. Uli and Rusl may not be my parents - but they raised me…not unless I’m married to you..” He said with a bitter smile.

“Then why don’t you marry me?” She asked, watching him, a sort of deeper look to her eyes now. This question caught Link off guard, and he dropped her wrists, face flushing crimson.

“Well…I…uh-” He stammered. Some courage he had…Farore would be ashamed. “Well-” he continued, stalling slightly before Midna leaned up - catching his mouth in a hot kiss.

“Link. Hush.” She murmured. “It was stupid of me to ask..” She said, a light blush on her cheeks. You idiot! He doesn’t want you that way…at least not yet…or ..at any rate that question was a bad idea! She thought - berating herself mentally, until she realized he was  not  kissing her back. “No Midna..it’s not that…it’s really…” He paused. “Why would you want to marry me?” He asked suddenly, and she slumped back against the tree - not meeting his gaze. Link was breathless in anticipation of her answer.

“I love you…I left my Kingdom for you..” She began. Hah, she admitted it… Link thought triumphantly - before refocusing on what she was saying. This was far more important than their little contest. “I feel like I know you really well…we’ve gone through so much…I…I don’t…” She paused. “I’m not one…who would be committed happily. I…” she paused. “But I think…I could make it work with you…because I really love you Link…” She blushed harder. “This sounds stupid - I can’t…explain it right.” She mumbled, still not looking at him - thus she was unable to see the stupid grin on his face. Both were silent. Midna was quiet solely because of her embarrassment. However, Link was simply speechless. Never in his dreams did he really consider how deep Midna’s love for him really was. Soon, the terrible stillness to the air was enough to make Midna shift uncomfortably. “L-” she began, about to apologize for her words when his lips suddenly crashed into hers. She gasped, eyes widening, clinging to Link for dear life it seemed as she collided with the tree trunk.

“I love you…more than anything in this world..” he was whispering to her, kissing her soundly on the lips - knocking the air out of her. Midna, however, was not given the gift of breathing when Link gripped her hair, kissing her harder than before. Attempting to regain herself from the shock, she managed to pull back, gasping for air, forcing him to look at her. Their gazes met, sapphire locked upon crimson - the only sound was their panting as each tried desperately to breath. It wasn’t long until each of the moved again, crashing together in another kiss, Midna’s arms tight around his neck, gasping from time to time as she felt his hands run through her long sunset hair.

“I love you..” Midna managed to murmur again, moving to kiss his neck.

“I love you too..” Link responded…holding her to him, so tightly that she was forced against his chest - unable to continue her kissing. Midna didn’t quite understand how, but now she was basically on his lap - and he was leaning against the tree - breathing heavily. Midna could hear his thundering heart just barely seeming to contain itself in Link’s ribcage. Midna was positive her heart matched his  heart’s beating. Though they were soaking almost from sitting in the snow…neither of them were cold. Midna half expected Link to kiss her again, but they just sat there instead, Link holding her to him…enjoying the time with her in his arms. As the sky darkened, Midna felt herself lulled to sleep by the steady beating of his heart…and would find herself in his bed the next morning.

How he had managed to get her up the ladder, she would never know…maybe his clawshot. Sighing, she stretched, peering out the window. “Must’ve gone to Fado’s for the night…” She mumbled, leaving his house, stretching and rubbing her eyes. She’d slept well the past night. Sighing, she stumbled toward the village, about to knock on Fado’s door when  Talo suddenly collided with her leg. “HEY!” She cried, almost falling over, but upon seeing the brown -haired child at her feet, she chuckled. “Careful..” She said, before she was suddenly dragged away. “Where are you taking me?” She asked, eyebrow raised, tripping as they ran.

“Uh…uh….to go see Beth!” He said, grinning. “But-” She paused, pulling back - looking at Fado’s house.

“I need to talk to Link..” She said softly, but Talo shook his head.

“He…he’s busy. He’ll find you later to talk!” Talo said. Midna’s eyes narrowed. Something was up, though what it was…she had no idea.

It would not be until much later in the day did she find Link, only to see him saddling Epona. “Hey..what’s up?” She asked, coming toward him, wrapping her arms around his neck from behind, leaning her head on his shoulder. The Hylian smirked, glancing at her, before yawning slightly.

“Nothing…really. I need to make a quick trip to Castle Town.” He said, sighing.

“Can I come?” She asked innocently, and Link stiffened.

“Er….no…” He said, looking away now. “It’s…um…a private mission.” He finished lamely, knowing she wouldn’t believe that for a second.

“Uh-huh. Sure. And since when does your ‘sidekick’ not get to come?” She said, pulling away, crossing her arms, looking faintly annoyed.

“Um..since I had a direct order from Zelda to come alone?” He said, gritting his teeth slightly - hoping she wouldn’t figure this lie out too.

“Link. You’re too noble to be good at lying. Seriously - if Zelda told you to come alone I would definitely be following you. It sounds far too fishy. Like a trap or something..” She said, about to speak again when Ilia ran up.

“MIDNA!” She cried, smiling as she reached the pair. “Thank heaven’s I’ve found you - I’ve been looking all over!” She said, glancing at Link, winking when Midna wasn’t looking. “Come on, Uli needed you for a minute..” She said. Midna sighed, rolling her eyes.

“Can it wait…?” She began.

“No.” Ilia said, rubbing the back of her neck. “It’s..er…urgent.” She said, causing Midna to put her  hands on her temples.

“Okay…okay. I mean..if I’m living here I suppose I ought to help out around town..” She mumbled, chancing a glance at Link before going off with Ilia.

She couldn’t expect him to be there when she got back, and of course he wasn’t. It was almost a week later when Midna had decided to stop looking for him. Maybe he’d run away from her. Sighing, she left his house, head hanging low. The sky was dark, snow falling again - older sheets of snow crunching underfoot as Midna headed to the Spring. Despite the freezing temperature - the spring refused to ice over. Perhaps it was the power of the spirit Ordona that kept it warm in the winter time. Putting her feet in, Midna stared up at the stars, groaning. “I knew I shouldn’t have said that the other day…he must feel so awkward!” She thought aloud - closing her eyes. “How obnoxious…I’ll have to figure out what’s wrong when he-”

“When ‘he’ what?” A voice said, a blonde man coming to sit beside Midna, watching her closely, brows furrowed. “You alright…sorry I kinda left like that earlier…” He continued - watching the Twili closely. She looked kinda sad.

“It’s okay…I shouldn’t have said what I did the other day..” She began. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable - you don’t have to pretend tha-”

“Minda…” He cut in, looking slightly hurt. “I wasn’t pretending when I said I loved you above everything else in the world. I mean it..” He said, watching her.

“Then why are you suddenly lying to me…?”

“Midna..” He began, suddenly laughing. “I thought I was so obvious…I’m mystified by the fact that you haven’t figured out why I have been attempting to lie and ignore you. Why everyone in the village seemed to be helping me get out of town…” He paused. “Didn’t you say you would marry me?” He began. Shocked, Midna nodded, watching him. “You have got to give me credit for being observational…” He continued. “I mean…I’ve been wanting to do this for a while…but I had to get the ring…and…?” He trailed off as he noticed Midna was still just staring at him. He smirked, leaning toward her, kissing her lips lightly. “Midna…? You alright?” He asked, and she snapped back into reality.

“Ye-yea…” She stuttered, eyes closing for a beat before she was blinking at him curiously. “So are you….?” She began, smiling slightly.

“Yes.” Link confirmed, suddenly drawing a ring from his pocket, holding it out to her. “Midna…would you marry me?”
